Hello!

If you found your way here, chances are you're a lot like me: A kid who grew up going to Camp Mimanagish on the Boulder River near Big Timber, MT, and has fond memories of the experience.

My name is John Firehammer. I attended camp during my junior high and high school years in the 1980s and was a camp counselor for a few years too.

Mimanagish played an important part in my growing up. It helped make me who I am. Some of my closest friends are people I first met, or got to know better, at camp.

In fact, Mimanagish is so special to me, that my wife and I got married there in 1992. It was August. It snowed.

My family and I recently moved back to Montana in 2004 after spending more than a decade out of state. That summer, we finally made it back to Mimanagish for a family camp and we loved it.

Spending time in the various buildings, walking up and down the rocky trails, enjoying the shade of the tall trees and the nearby sounds of the river brought back lots of memories. Sharing meals in the dining hall and nights in the cabin with my wife and children created new ones.

From time to time, I'd meet up with past Mimanagish campers and they'd always mention how much they loved camp, how they'd like to get in touch with old friends and how they'd like to go back for a visit, or to counsel a camp or bring their own kids.

That's what led me to starting this blog and the Mimanagish Alumni mailing list. I wanted to help people reconnect--with each other and with Mimanagish.

The idea of this blog is to share--stories, pictures, whatever. I'm happy to post whatever you'd like, just send me an e-mail.

And please join the mailing list. Some of your old friends may already be members! It's a slowly growing group, but folks are finally finding it. It's the best way to track down old friends you remember from Camp Mim.

Want to go back to camp? There's no reason you can't! To learn more about helping out as a staffer, counselor, or to register your own children for a summer session, visit the United Church of Christ Montana - Northern Wyoming Conference's official Mimanagish site. You can also get information there about how to donate money to camp to help keep the place up and running.

Glad you found us! Thanks for stopping by!
